Are Use By/Best Before Dates a Legal Requirement on Food Stuffs in the UK?

There is no legal requirement to date stamp veg or fruit.. It is illegal to sell fresh goods with an out of date, use by date, but at the end of the end it is up to the customer whether they buy it or not. Best before is being phased out as it leads to decent food being thrown in the bin.
