Area of overlap between optics and signal processing?

I'm a graduate student in electrical engineering, and I was originally focusing on signal and image processing. However, I have recently found an interest in optics/optoelectronics. Are there any areas where these specialties overlap, or would I be wasting my time to try to learn both?
