Any information on Med Board benefits?
I am currently in the Army National Guard on Active Duty status for AIT training @ Ft. Huachuca. I suffered a back injury in basic training in October 2010 and had surgery for a severely herniated disk April 4, 2011. Unfortunately, I am still in immense pain which leads my doctor to be concerned of nerve damage/scar tissue to my S1 sciatic nerve. It was brought to my attention today that I will most likely be put up for med board since this could potentially be a permanent injury and I have had zero physical contributions to my training unit since October of last year. I am aware of the medical retirement route with a percentage of pay [and that I may not exactly be eligible for it], but my main concern is that I will be discharged with zero benefits. Can anyone supply assurance of what might happen? I'm basically concerned that I'll be discharged without any help to get me and my wife/kids back into civilian life. I'd be completely stranded! Does anyone know what all I am entitled to with a med board? My Top Secret clearance has been approved, but would I be able to use it upon departure? I have a 3M certification in fiber optics and about 30 college credit hours that I received while here at Ft. Huachuca...would I get those? Medical benefits? GI Bill? Thanks in advance for your answers...
